November Golden Spotlight: JeffYES!
Interested in working with
adolescents? Check out JeffYES! YES (Youth Emergency Service) is a 30-day
temporary shelter for displaced or run-away adolescents in Philadelphia.
Jefferson students who participate in the JeffYES organization are involved in
weekly outreach with the youth at YES. The main focus of Jefferson’s
involvement at YES is to lead educational discussion groups on topics relating
to self-esteem, goal-setting, and positivity, as well as other topics directly
relating to adolescent lifestyles such as sexual health, relationships, etc.
Over the past years, JeffYES has worked hard to establish a consistent presence
at the shelter, and last year especially, JeffYES was able to get involved with
projects such as a mural arts project to improve the YES living space. This
year we have new efforts to expand our arts initiatives through creative
writing and expression workshops and work with the teens in the area of visual
arts. JeffYES meets on Tuesday evenings (our next meeting is Next Tuesday,
November 12th from 6:30-7:30pm). For more information, please email jeffyes@jefferson.edu or talk to
Sarah Capponi and Mollie Woehling.
